YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A committee set up by the Lower Chamber of the Russian State Duma to promote Armenia’s joining of the Russia-Belarus Union began its work in Moscow Monday.
According to the Press service of the Duma–the intention to join the Russia-Belarus Union was announced in Yerevan by the Russia-Belarus-Armenia Armenian People’s Initiative republican organization committee.
The Russian Duma passed a decision Thursday saying that the Russian parliamentarians "respecting the independence of the Republic of Armenia–its ancient culture and history–as well as aiming at strengthening economical–political and mutual defensive territory–state that they fully support the will of people of Armenia to hold a referendum to enter the Russia-Belarus Union as an equal member."
