New Deputy Group Established in Parliament

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Albert Bazeyan–Deputy Chairman of the "Yerkrapah" Volunteer Union–announced Wednesday the creation of the "Yerkrapah" Deputy Group during a parliament session Oct. 21.

The group’s top-priorities will be to promote the establishment of the rule of law and a law-abiding state through everyday legislative–political and labor activities–to ensure the social security of families of servicemen and victims of war–to settle the Karabakh problem protecting the right of the people of Karabakh to self-determination–to ensure a qualitative and structural development of the armed forces as well as to strengthen their military might.

"Taking into account attempts at exerting economic pressure on Armenia by other countries–and the political dictatorship in Armenia–we are sure that Armenia–with its natural wealth–intellectual and industrial potential–will be able to ensure its nation’s due existence–create a powerful system of national security and get its due place in the world while conducting correct economic–social–legal and staff policies," read a statement by the newly-established Deputy Group.

The "Yerkrapah" Deputy Group consists of 16 members of parliament who have shown a willingness to cooperate with all factions and deputy groups at the National Assembly–as well as with all other public and political organizations operating in the country.

Speaking at a parliament session Tuesday–the Gegham Gharibjanian–head of the "Social State" deputy group–called on all deputies to voice their opinions on the current state of the Karabakh peace process–saying his group suggested either holding a hearing in parliament or calling a special session on the issue.

Gharibjanian noted that Karabakh’s deputies had already raised the question of estimating the current stage of the negotiating process.
