Sept. 25 Defendants’s Relatives Demonstrate

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A demonstration and protest was held near the Supreme Court building Tuesday by relatives of several defendants in the September 25 trial.

The demonstrators–waving "Freedom To Political Prisoners" picket signs–demanded that Supreme Court Chairman Tariel Barseghian revise punishment with regards to Armen Khachatrian–a defendant in the September 25 trial–and review the "fabricated liable case" against Arshak Sadoyan–a member of the National Democratic Union Administration.

The relatives of the defendants said Khachatrian’s state of health was very poor–and that his life might be in danger unless the punishment be revised.

The preliminary investigation into the liable cases instituted against Sadoyan and Khachatrian is now over. Investigation materials were handed over to the Supreme Court–but no decision has been taken yet to bring them to trial.

The case against defendant Albert Baghdasarian is currently under investigation.

The demonstrators also tried to present their deman’s to Prosecutor General Henrikh Khachatrian–but later it became clear that he was not in the country–but in Moscow attending a session of heads of prosecutors’ offices–interior ministries–security services and border troops of CIS-member states.

The demonstrators threatened to stage such demonstrations until justice has been restored.

At press time there had been no response from authorities or the Prosecutor General’s office in regards to the requests of the demonstrators.

Other demonstrations were not announced.
