Rep. Sherman Visits Ferrahian School

ENCINO–Congressman Brad Sherman paid a visit to Ferrahian Armenian School Thursday and met with students and faculty–as well as administration and parents–a majority of whom are active members of the San Fernando Valley community.

After Ferrahian Principal–Marsbed Margossian–opened the specially convened assembly by welcoming the first term Member of Congress to the school–ANC-San Fernando Valley Chairman–Nishan Bostanian recounted Sherman’s strong efforts taken on behalf of the Armenian-American community–including his vocal support for sending US economic assistance directly to Nagorno-Karabakh and his concerns regarding the establishment of a Turkish academic chair at his alma mater–UCLA.

In recognition of the many contributions made by Ferrahian to the San Fernando Valley community–Congressman Sherman graciously presented to Principal Margossian the actual Armerican flag which flew atop the Capitol Building in Washington on July 4–1997 as well as a plaque from the Capitol Architect authenticating the flag. In return–Principal Margossian presented a framed sketch and quote by William Saroyan describing the resiliency of the Armenian people.

"Over a very short period of time–Congressman Sherman has distinguisehed himself as one of the Armenian community’s best friends in Congress," stated Bostanian. "As he stated in his remarks–in order to be even more effective in Washington all Armenian-Americans must participate in our political process and make their voices heard."
