Wilson Appoints Petrossian on CSU Board

SACRAMENTO–Alice Petrossian–who has served as a member of the California Community Colleges Board of Governors from 1992-96–and who currently serves as president–has been appointed to the California State University Board of Trustees.

The appointment–which was handed down by California Gov. Pete Wilson–is the most recent in a series of appointmen’s and nominations for the Glendale resident–who has also served on the Commission for the Establishment of Academic Content and Performance Standards since 1996–and is current chair of the Language Arts Standards Committee.

Petrossian has worked as director of special projects and inter-cultural education for the Glendale Unified School District since 1977. From 1984 to 1991–she worked as a part-time instructor for the California State University–Los Angeles. She previously served on the Commission on Teacher Credentialing and the Sunset Review Advisory Committee on Education.

A Republican–Petrossian is president of the California Association for State and Federal Program Administrators and a member of the Association of California School Administrators–Educational Administrators Alumni Association and California Parent-Teacher Association. Petrossian was recognized as the most outstanding educator in Los Angeles County by CSULA in 1996.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and a master’s degree in administrative services from California State University–Los Angeles in 1969 and 1979–respectively. She earned her elementary and secondary teaching credentials at CSU–Hayward. She is currently completing a doctorate in policy and management at the University of Southern California.

The governor also appointed educators Robert Foster and Maridel Moulton to the board

Members do not receive a salary–and appointmen’s require Senate confirmation.
