Lebanese Azeri Presidents Meet at OIC

TEHRAN (Alik)–Lebanese President Elias Herawi and Azeri President Gaidar Aliyev met Wednesday in Tehran–where they are both attending the Organization of Islamic Countries Summit.

The two officials discussed bilateral relations and cooperation–specifically pertaining to economic–oil and natural gas issues.

Present at the meeting were Azeri Foreign Minister Hassan Hassanov–Azeri Ambassador in Egypt Israel Vakilov–Lebanese Foreign Minister Fares Boueyz–as well as Lebanese Ambassador in Tehran Mounir Talhouk.

Aliyev informed his Lebanese counterpart that Vakilov is being considered for the position of Ambassador in Beirut.

Herawi in turn expressed confidence that the two sides would benefit immensely from the appointment–and he promised that the Lebanese government would continue its work toward improving relations between the two governmen’s.

Aliyev extended an invitation for Herawi to visit Azerbaijan soon–and Boueyz is scheduled to lead a delegation to Baku next month.

In a phone conversation with Archbishop Artak Manoukian–Prelate in Tehran–Herawi ensured the religious leader that he had not discussed issues concerning the Karabakh conflict.
