Armenian Delegation Arrives in Copenhagen

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–An Armenian delegation led by Foreign Minister Alexander Arzoumanian arrived in Copenhagen Wednesday to attend the OSCE Foreign Ministers’ meeting scheduled for the weekend.

The attention of the Copenhagen summit will be focused on the European security model for the 21st century. The summit will also establish an institute of OSCE press affairs–ratify the mandate of OSCE representative for free press and appoint a representative–as well as decide the place of the next summit.

Regional issues–including the Karabakh conflict–will also be reflected in the document adopted at the OSCE Foreign Ministers’ meeting.

The 54 Foreign ministers who are scheduled to attend–including Russia–are to elaborate joint positions on key European policy issues as well during the two-day meeting– which is also expected to sum up the results of the organization’s peace-making efforts.

Among such peace-making activities is the "Dawn" international operation conducted by a multinational contingent under the aegis of the OSCE to stabilize the situation in Albania.

Special importance will be attached to the elaboration of a comprehensive model of ensuring stability in Europe launched on Russia’s initiative. As the OSCE Chairman–Denmark sets a task of reaching an agreement in Copenhagen regarding the principles of formation of a European Security Charter. Danish diplomats say the check-up of positions in that issue on the eve of the meeting is still in progress–but prospects of agreement on major parameters of the future document are still realistic.
