The Central Electoral Commission held a meeting on April 6 to finalize the election of Robert Kocharian as the final vote count was reported. Of the 20 CEC members–16 voted Kocharian as the rightful president.
National Democratic Union representatives Filaret Perigian and Vova Hakhverdian withheld their votes–and two other CEC members were absent from the meeting.
According to final results–of 2,300,816 voters–1,567,702 participated in the second round of voting–with voter turnout at 68.49 percent.
Karen Demirchian received 618,764 votes–or 40.51 percent of the votes. And–Robert Kocharian received 908,613 votes–or 59.49 percent of the votes. 14,890 voters voted against both candidates. 23,678 ballots were deemed invalid. 631 ballots were unreadable for miscellaneous reasons. A total of 4,463 ballots were incorrect.
Unlike in the first round of elections–Kocharian earned more votes than Demirchian in all voting districts. In the first round–Demirchian had earned more votes in Yerevan–Tavush and abroad.
