Russian Politicians Discuss Armenian Elections

MOSCOW (Armenpress)–Konstantin Zatoulin–CIS member-states institute director–and Andranik Mihranian–Russian Ministerial Council member and Reforms Fund deputy chairman–discussed with Armenpress the results of the Armenian elections.

According to Mihranian–he had correctly predicted the outcome and was pleased with it. "One of Kocharian’s advantages is that he is likely to succeed in maximal unification of the nation for an efficient resolution of the current economic and political problems facing Armenia–as well as in the Karabakh issue. I would like to thank all the voters for their choice for today I am more proud of my nationality than I have ever been," said Mihranian.

Zatoulin pointed out that the outcome was the most preferable one for him. "I think Armenian voters have voted for their future. There are grounds to state that Demirchian’s pre-election campaign was being actively supported by certain officials in Moscow having a direct connection with the Caspian oil. It is natural that for them the most acceptable candidacy for Armenian presidency was Demirchian who was expected not to hinder their profits by the Karabakh issue," said Zatoulin. He said that he respects Kocharian’s "very definite stance on his activities."
