Bazeyan Discourages Dissolution of Parliament

YEREVAN (Armenpress)–In an interview with Armenpress–Chairman of the parliamentary faction of the Yerkrapah battalion Albert Bazeyan said Yerkrapah would like to see a good manager and economist as Prime Minister.

He said the country is concerned with economic problems as a necessary pre-condition of improvement of the people’s social condition. "It is preferable for the Prime Minister to not depend on any political party or other forces," he said. "We have not made any concrete suggestions yet. I think we are not authorized to do so. But we will express our opinion on any nomination," Bazeyan declared.

He added that Yerkrapah members will not participate in Kocharian’s decision-making on any government positions–because "Robert Kocharian should be given an opportunity to form his government."

Asked about the status of the National Assembly–Bazeyan said such issues were yet to be discussed.

He said–the parliament’s internal issues need to be clarified first. He stated that the status of the National Assembly should be discussed with Kocharian. "We will try to make authorities’ activities controllable through the parliament. It is desirable–of course–that different political forces be involved in the National Assembly’s work," Bazeyan stated.

Regarding the National Assembly’s dissolution–Bazeyan said "I think it will be too much for our country to hold another extraordinary election. Also–we do not have a new law on presidential elections yet. A normal law must be adopted to exclude any possibility of violations and falsifications. A law on legal-judicial reforms–as well–should be adopted by the National Assembly. The reforms already initiated should undoubtedly continue," said Bazeyan.

Based on the aforementioned–Bazeyan felt that it was useless to dissolved the National Assembly. "Political forces themselves are not ready for elections yet," Bazeyan concluded.
