BEVERLY HILLS–The Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Los Angeles–Armen Melkonian–issued an announcement Thursday urging the Armenian-American community of Southern California to gather on April 24 to commemorate the 83rd anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in a united fashion.
"The Armenian Consulate in Los Angeles is encouraged by plans already in place for the commemoration of the 83rd anniversary of the Genocide and calls on all Armenian political parties–community religious–cultural–benevolent organization and individual members to commemorate the victims of the Armenian Genocide in a united manner on April 24," said the statement.
"By gathering together on that sacred day for all Armenia’s–we would not only present our solemn respects to the memories of the victims–but we would also demonstrate our unwavering collective will toward national issues," said the consul general.
A commemoration gathering is scheduled to take place on April 24 at 2 p.m. at the Armenian Martyrs Monument in Montebello.
