Kocharian Meets with Foreign Diplomatic Corps

YEREVAN (Armenpress)– President Robert Kocharian received the heads of the diplomatic missions and international organizations in Armenia–on Friday.

Thanking them for their well wishes upon his election–Kocharian assured his guests that productive cooperation will not only continue but acquire new possibilities for development.

He cited the presidential elections in Armenia as a pledge to strengthen Armenia and ensure its development–stressing that the pre-election period did not have a significant impact on the country’s economy.

Speaking on urgent issues–Kocharian stated–"A wide-scale and effort-necessitating work lies ahead. I am sure that through the direct assistance of your states–Armenia will overcome all challenges."

He stressed the importance of the maintenance of public solidarity within the republic–as well as–the continuation of reforms toward market economy–having the settlement of social issues in the center of their attention.

Kocharian said that steps will be taken to attract investment–pointing out that the financial and economic system of Armenia is the most liberal among CIS states.

Regarding foreign policy–Kocharian underlined direct relations with the neighboring states.

He said the most difficult issue is the settlement of regional issues.

He claimed Armenia will also increase its participation in the structures of international cooperation.

Concluding his speech–Kocharian said–"Armenia’should become the most organized state in the Transcaucasus. We are ready to become trustworthy partners for foreign states in business as well as in political relations."

Speaking on behalf of the group of diplomats–Iranian Ambassador to Armenia Hamid Reza Nikkar Esfahani–congratulated the president and wished him success–good health and good service for the sake of the state.

He wished the Armenian people prosperity and development.

According to Ambassador Esfahani–the free will of the people was expressed in the elections and a person–well aware of the republic’s and region’s problems–was elected president.

"The recent developmen’s in Armenia proved that both people and statesmen have social maturity. It is a pleasure and honor to carry out diplomatic activities in a state with such culture. The restraint and maturity of the people prove that Armenia’s are able to independently settle their issues," said the Iranian diplomat.

Acting Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian was also present at the meeting.
