Armenian Jewelers to Meet at Basel Jewelry Fair

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The first Armenian Jewelers and Gem Dealers Assembly to be held in Basel–Switzerland–April 26–is expected to raise the issues of setting up joint ventures in the jewelry sector and opening a jewelry center in Yerevan. It will also discuss the development of the jewelry industry in Armenia and international jewelry trade–as well as ways of raising and maintaining the profile of worldwide Armenian jewelry.

The assembly will be attended by Armenian gem manufactures and dealers from all over the world. Among them are businessmen from the United States–Canada–Lebanon–Syria–Japan–Switzerland–the Netherlands–Italy–Spain–Argentina–Brazil and the CIS. Armenia will be represented by Minister of Industry and Trade Garnik Nanagulian–managers of Armenian jewelry factories and diamond-cutting enterprises such as "Shohakn," the Yerevan Jewelry Factory–"Lori" and "Lili-Armenia."

Narineh Sahakian–chief of the export promotion department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade–told Noyan Tapan that information about other Armenian enterprises and organizations in the given sector will also be presented during the meeting.

The date and place of the meeting had been chosen to coincide with the world’s most famous jewelry exhibition–the "World Watch Clock and Jewelry Show," held under the patronage of the Basel Jewelry Fair every year in Basel. Works by Armenian jewelers will be among exhibits on display.

The meeting is sponsored by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Armenia with the assistance of the country’s permanent representation to the United Nations.
