Youth Hold Protest Demonstration at US Embassy in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–An estimated 4,000 members of the Youth Party of Armenia and students of Yerevan high schools held a protest demonstration at the US Embassy of Armenia–Thursday–with "Armenian Blood Has Proven To Be Cheaper Than Oil" and "Show Your Christian Face" slogans.

In a letter addressed to the US Congress–the demonstrators demanded that the United State condemn the 1915 Genocide of Armenia’s perpetrated by Ottoman Turks. The authors of the letter called special attention to the package of documen’s adopted by the United Nations–in particular–the Convention on Genocide Prevention and Condemnation.

Addressing the crowd–YPA Ideology Department head Hamlet Vetunts said that a day will come when Demirel or any other Turkish leader will apologize to humanity just like Willy Brandt knelt and apologized for the Holocaust.

At a meeting held Wednsesday–Youth and Students Union representatives told President Robert Kocharian–"There are real preconditions today for the internal political and moral atmosphere to recover and social and economic issues be resolved; the country’s youth are ready to make their contribution to this cause."

Participants of the meeting highlighted the importance of involving young people in the system of government control and the need for a constant link between the youth and the president.

President Kocharian praised the unity among the youth and promised to ensure all necessary conditions for young people to be able express their opinions.
