Canal France Internacional to Broadcast Shows in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian National Television and Canal France Internacional have signed an agreement under which the French television company will provide cultural–educational and other television programs translated into Armenian to be aired on Armenian National Television.

Canal France Internacional Director in Central Europe Marie-Laure Priene said that her company had closed deals with television stations in Lithuania–Latvia–Ukraine–Bulgaria–Romania–Moldova–Turkey–Macedonia–Bosnia-Herzegovina and Albania thus far. The French company also plans to sign a similar deal with Azeri television next month.

Armenian National Television director Hamlet Gasparian described the signing of the deal as very useful. "Armenian National Television has no broadcasting stations abroad due to lack of financial means and it cannot dispatch groups of reporters to shoot films about foreign countries. Therefore–this contract opens a window to the outside world for our people," said Gasparian. Referring to the centuries-old friendship and mutual understanding between the peoples of France and Armenia–Gasparian voiced confidence that the French television products will be clear for the Armenian viewer and in a sense promote the prestige and audience of the French company.

Priene said that cooperation with Armenia began in 1995 when satellites receiving their television program were mounted in Yerevan.
