Conference Addresses Dangers of turkish Expansionist Policies

BEIRUT (Aztag)–A conference organized by the Armenian National Committee of Lebanon and the Kurdish Parliament in Exile took place on Friday and Saturday at the Summerland Hotel–focusing on the dangers of Turkey’s expansionist policies.

The conference aimed to outline the dangers of Turkish policy and its detrimental effects on the security of Middle East–the Balkan nations and the Caucasus.

Presenting papers at the conference were Cyprus University professor Josef Josef; former Russian Duma [lower house] member Constantine Zadulin; Russian Presidential Advisor Andranik Mihranian; Kurdish Parliament in Exile members Djaber Ghafor–Manuel Hasretian and Sharif Atcherian; Yerevan University professor Rouben Safrastian; and Stepanakert University professor Valdimir Hacobian.

At the conclusion of the conference a resolution was adopted and dispatched to the Lebanese press.

"Turkey’s expansionist policies must be deemed a threat to the region’s security and its peoples," stated the resolution which called on the targets of the expansionist policy to cooperate and work together to combat the threats.

The resolution also called on the international community and organizations to condemn Turkey’s policies–basing their criticism on principles of preservation of human rights and international law.

The resolution also urged the Turkish government to recognize the Armenian Genocide–to return occupied Armenian territories and make reparations for that crime.

The group also urged Turkey to end its decade-old campaign to annihilate its own Kurdish population and put an end to abuses and violations against the Kurds.

"The conference condemns the military alliance and accords between Turkey and Israel which poses grave danger to the region and the future of the Arab people," continued the resolution.

In conclusion–it was also decided that such cooperative conferences and seminars should continue–to ensure the proper follow up to such political policies.

Following the conference Saturday–Zadulin and Mihranian met with Lebanese president Elias Herawi. The two Russian leaders were accompanied by Armenian Revolutionary Federation Lebanon Central Committee political affairs director Hagop Pakradouni and the chairman of the Armenian Caucus in the Lebanese Parliament Sebouh Hovanessian.

Russia’s relations and policies about the region were the main topics of discussion during the meeting.

On Friday–the two leaders also met with deputy prime minister and interior minister Michel Muri.
