ANC Australia Informs Federal Parliamentarians of Memorial

SYDNEY–The ANC-Australia has written to all Federal Parliamentarians–expressing the Armenian-Australian community’s concern over the recent denials and revisionist reaction from Turkish government representatives in Australia over the NSW Parliament’s decision to establish a Memorial in memory of the 1.5 million men–women and children of the Armenian Genocide.

Federal Parliamentarians have been informed of the Turkish government’s continual denial of this human tragedy and were forwarded copies of last year’s historic motion unanimously passed by the NSW Parliament condemning the Armenian Genocide.

In addition–members of parliament were forwarded copies of motions passed internationally that have recognized or condemned the Armenian Genocide–including the recent decision of the French National Assembly to "publicly recognize the Armenian Genocide of 1915."

The ANC-Australia also pointed out that the Armenian Genocide is a historical reality and its denial by the Turkish Government has prompted strong reaction from the academia–including the petition signed by over 150 academics in the United States which appeared in the NY Times National edition on April 24 of this year–and the resolution unanimously passed by the Association of Genocide Scholars–Corcordia University–Montreal–in 1997–both of which condemned the continual denial of the Armenian Genocide.
