Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian Named Navasartian Honorary Presidents

GLENDALE–"Longtime Homenetmen’supporters Mr. and Mrs. Dikran and Zarouhie Der Ghazarian are the Honorary Presidents of the 23rd Annual Homenetmen Navasartian Games," reported Homenetmen Western US Regional Executive Chairperson Mher Tavidian–at a banquet held in preparation for the Navasartian Victory Ball–Tuesday at the Brandview Collection.

Tavidian also announced that veteran Homenetmen member Hagop Ovaian was selected as "Exemplary Homenetmen Member" of 1998.

Among those present at this annual event were 22nd Annual Navasartian Games Honorary Presidents Mr. and Mrs. Therese and Garbis Kemandjian; Central Executive member Koko Balian; former Navasartian Games Honorary President; representatives of major sponsor Citibank–and major sponsor Marcus Cable representatives and Homenetmen members Mr. and Mrs. Osheen Haroutiunian.

Additional attendees included retired California Supreme Court Justice Armand Arabian and his wife Nancy; newly elected chairperson of the Glendale Chamber of Commerce–Berdj Karapetian; representatives of regional Homenetmen chapters and friends of Homenetmen–who were represented by Master of Ceremonies Shant Haytayan.

Haytayan acknowledged and praised all moral and financial support to the 23rd Annual Navasartian Games which allow the event to be so grand in its success year after year.

A video presentation ensued of two videos on Homenetmen activities and particularly the Navasartian Games which will be aired on Marcus Cable.

Delivering the message of the Regional Executive–Tavidian thanked the organizing committee of the Navasartian Games and the more than 150 volunteers who do not spare any effort to make successful every event of the 23rd Annual Navasartian Games dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Homenetmen. Tavidian then announced the names of and expressed gratitude to all sponsors and donors for their consistent support.

Citibank representative Ara Baghdoyan said–"Sponsoring the Navasartian Games once again–we contribute to the mission of this organization which aims to educate our youth–preparing them as real citizens–guiding them to a better future. We believe the more than 5000 athletes participating in the Navasartian Games will in the coming years enter or graduate from fine educational institutions–taking with them the experience of these Games and mostly the Navasartian spirit."

The Citibank delegation then presented the $15,000 donation to the Regional Executive.

A $15,000 donation was also presented on behalf of Yemenite Solomon Levi owner of Sunrise Jewelry.

Armand Arabian commended the Homenetmen for its great work in educating Armenian youth and urged all Armenia’s to support Armenian youth on their road to a brighter future.

Pianist Armen Aharonian provided musical entertainment throughout the evening as tickets were sold to more than 40 tables at the Victory Ball.
