French Greek Deputies Raise Genocide Issue in Euro Parliament

ISTANBUL (Marmara)–French and Greek Europarliamentarians Tuesday urged the General Assembly of the European Parliament to include a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide on its agenda as "urgent issue."

Efforts by a Turkish official–however–reportedly thwarted the measure–resulting in the refusal of the proposal by the assembly chairman. The Europarliamentarians demanded a vote on the issue.

According to Turkish newspapers–during Wednesday’s session of the General Assembly–the Strasbourg-based Euro-Parliament–by a vote of 70-299 refused to include the measure on its agenda.

Efforts–however–for recognition of the Genocide by the Euro-Parliament are still underway.
