Ter Petrosyan Denies Milliyet Report

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s former leader Levon Ter-Petrosyan–through a spokesperson for his newly established center–denied allegations made by the Turkish newspaper Milliyet that during the 1996 presidential elections–he–along with chief advisor–Jirair Libaridian had asked Turkey for help.

Ter-Petrosyan’s announcement targeted a report by Snark news agency–which had picked up the Milliyet report and distributed it throughout Armenia. That report was published in the Wednesday issue of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation organ–Yerkir.

In his four point response–Ter-Petrosyan stated that Libaridian or any representative of the Armenia government had never addressed Armenia’s internal political issues with Turkey or any other government–including those allied with Armenia.

He went on to say that neither the Milliyet–Snark nor Yerkir can provide any evidence or document to the contrary–adding that Milliyet’s "disgusting fabrications aimed at furthering the already tense suspicions among Armenia’s political forces."

In conclusion–in classic Ter-Petrosyan manner–the former leader chided Snark for "swallowing," Milliyet’s cheap allegation "with great pleasure."
