Aliyev Criticizes French Genocide Bill

ANKARA (Turkish Daily News)–Azerbaijan President Haydar Aliyev said he believed France will annul the bill approved by the National Assembly–the lower house of the French Parliament–recognizing the historical claims of Armenian Genocide by Turks in 1915.

Aliyev–receiving a delegation of French parliamentarians–said that the decision to approve the bill was "not reflected upon properly." He said he hoped that the French senators will pursue what is rational during the ratification process of the bill–the Anatolia news agency reported.

"Those who speak about a so-called genocide in 1915 would do better to talk about a real genocide Armenia’s committed toward the end of the century–between 1990 and 1992," Aliyev said. He added that Azerbaijan does not want the animosity between the Armenia’s–Azeris and Turks to continue–but for these people to look toward the future.
