Church Conversion Condemned by Orthodox Summit

STEPANAKERT (Armenpress)–The International Summit of Orthodox European Countries unanimously adopted a resolution condemning Turkish plans to convert Holy Magar Armenian Apostolic Church to a hotel.

The ancient Armenian church which came under Turkish jurisdiction upon Turkey’s illegal occupation of Cyprus in 1974–has suffered several cases of indignation over the last two decades–however the recent announcement of the conversion has caused an uproar in various international religious communities–as well as Armenian–Greek and Cypriot activists.

The resolution was introduced by the Greek and Cypriot delegations of the summit–which was later discussed.
