Victory Ball Celebrates 80th Anniversary

The victory ball of the 23rd annual Navasartian Games gathered together 1200 young and old at the Universal Hilton banquet hall Saturday evening–July 4–to celebrate the 80th anniversary of Homenetmen.

On behalf of the victory ball organizing committee–Shant Haytayan welcomed the guests and invited master of ceremonies Charlie Galian to start the formal program.

Western Prelate Bishop Moushegh Mardirossian conducted the benediction.

Following the dinner–Galian introduced to the audience the guests of honor: Western Prelate Mardirossian; Armenian Revolutionary Western Region Central Executive member Dr. Viken Hovsepian; Homenetmen Central Executive members Jirair Sarkisian and Koko Balian; Homenetmen 23rd Navasartian Games honorary presidents Mr. and Mrs. Dikran and Zarouhi Der Ghazarian; 22nd Navasartian Games honorary presidents Mr. and Mrs. Garbis and Therese Kemanjian; 1998 "Exemplary Member" Hagop Ovayan; Homenetmen Western Region honorary president Kerop Arakelian; from Armenia Aida Pashkhian–mother of martyred Homenetmen member and freedom-fighter Vartan Pashkhian; Armenian singer Nune Yesayan; and Homenetmen athletes from Argentina–France–and Canada.

Following his opening remarks–Galian introduced "Exemplary Member" Hagop Ovayan who was presented a plaque from the Central Executive. Ovayan expressed his gratitude to Homenetmen and its teachings.

Then–Mher Tavidian gave the Central Executive remarks noting the many Homenetmen achievemen’s in the last 80 years. He thanked the many supporters–donors–parents and guests–whose contributions have helped this organization accomplish many goals. Tavidian then introduced past Navasartian Games honorary presidents–the Andonian brothers and representatives of the Kevork Andonian Educational Fund Arbi Baghdasarian and Lousine Danakian. He then introduced this years honorary presidents Dikran and Zarouhi Der Ghazarian. The guests gave a standing ovation in recognition of the efforts of the few remaining Genocide survivors who despite trying times and troubles paved their way into the Armenian life and Armenian organizations such as Homenetmen. Der Ghazarian was then invited on stage to receive a Navasartian Games tricolor medal.

In the final portion of the formal program–Central Executive remarks were given by Jirair Sarkisian. He expressed that the Navasartian Games are proof of the endurance and longevity of the Armenian people. He then thanked the Central Executive and the 17 chapters that made the Navasartian Games a success.

Following the formal program–Raffi Khardalian and The Reflections entertained the guests. Nune Yesayan also performed.
