Unemployment Decreases in Armenia

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The level of unemployment decreased in the country over the past six years. Especially in Yerevan–a large number of jobs were created enabling seekers of employment to find a job in about a month.

However–since employers are seeking highly skilled workers–only one in six persons who apply through the Employment Service Center are able to be hired. There are currently more than 700 available jobs in the fields of law–computer science–and finance.

The Employment Service is implementing retraining of the unemployed–which will promote employment growth. As of July 1–131,268 unemployed were registered in the country–28,540 of them in Yerevan. 19,541 persons are on welfare. During the past six months the Employment Service helped 1,447 persons find jobs.
