YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A new set of predetermined customs taxes on staple imported goods began to be implemented Saturday.
The list was approved by the country’s Customs Department and agreed upon in conjunction with the Ministry of Economy and Finance–the chief of the information department Susan Simonian told Noyan Tapan.
She added that Chief of the Customs Department Husik Gevorkian recently met with representatives of 22 of the largest importing companies and discussed the businessman-customs relations with them.
The chief of the department said that similar meetings should be held as often as possible in order to ensure and end to abuses and arbitrary rules which take place in lower echelons and are difficult to control. Gevorkian also said that none of the importers will have any exclusive privileges.
