American Red Cross Signs Construction Project Deal

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– The Armenian government–the American Red Cross–and Armenia’s Red Cross signed a humanitarian agreement Wednesday for a reconstruction plan in the earthquake zone.

The contract guarantees the rebuilding of hundreds of homes for families devastated by the earthquake. On the behalf of the Armenian government–the contract was signed by Minister of Civil Planning Felix Pyroomian

The American Red Cross has already prepared a schedule which with the leadership of the Armenian government will go into effect on August 13.

The $5 million budget will include buildings in Gumri and Vanadzor. The selection of the building contractors and of the families which will be living in the new facilities will be conducted by the American Red Cross.

The building contracts will be chosen by the end of August and construction is scheduled to be completed between August and December of 1999.
