YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Discussions of the presidential Constitution Amendment Committee Friday focused on dual citizenship.
Under the current Armenian Constitution–an Armenian citizen cannot be a citizen of another country at the same time.
A member of Commission’s working group Armen Haroutiunian suggested removing this ban from the Constitution and adopting a law which would fix the problem. Almost all political forces included in the Committee agreed with the proposal–except for representatives of the Republican Party and Armenian National Movement which spoke against introducing dual citizenship.
Discussions will be continued at the next session of the Commission.
