Armenia Shows Lead in Standardization in CIS

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"Armenia is one of the leading countries in CIS by bringing the standardization of goods and services up to international norms," Vice-President of the Association of France Norms Alain Duran told a news conference dedicated to the International Standardization Day.

Speaking about training of Armenian specialists–Duran noted that Armenia-France cooperation had yielded good results in the standardization of goods and services.

Chief of the Department for Standardization–Metrology and Certification Ghukas Mehrabian discussed legislation ensuring the standardization process. He said that the government approved a bill on consumer’s rights which called for the establishment of a laboratory for quality control of oil products.

By December 1 1998 the Department is expected to complete the first stage on overall tests of scales and other measurement devices. The process of checking all measuring devices in Armenia is expected to take two years.
