Karabakh Leader Again in Yerevan for Economic Talks

YEREVAN (RFE/RL)–Economic issues dominated the agenda of a meeting in Yerevan on Tuesday between the leaders of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh–the second in a week.

President Robert Kocharian and his counterpart from the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic–Arkady Ghoukassian discussed the "socioeconomic situation in Karabakh and the course of jointly implemented economic programs," the presidential press service reported. The two men’spoke about "ways of expanding cooperation in various economic areas" and "exchanged views on concrete programs," it said. No details were reported.

Economic issues were also at the center of talks between Kocharian and Ghoukassian last week. The Nagorno-Karabakh economy–battered by the 1991-1994 war with Azerbaijan–has been re-oriented toward Armenia’since the region broke away from Baku’s rule in the last years of the Soviet Union.
