Armenia Denies Ocalan Arrival

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Leader of Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) Abdullah Ocalan is not currently in Armenia and has never entered the country. The Armenian authorities are not going to invite him to Armenia–presidential spokesman Vahe Gabrielian told a news conference Tuesday.

Gabrielian noted that Armenia does not have any official confirmation of a warning issued by Turkey in connection with Ocalan’s alleged arrival in Armenia. Gabrielian refused to comment on any report "which is not fact-based or does not correspond to facts."

Gabrielian stated that this was not an Armenia’s problem as Turkey continued to point to different countries–alleging that Ocalan may have entered there.

"In fact the problem should be approached from a different perspective and one must attempt to find the reasons behind such accusations which prompts us to issue a denial every week," Gabrielian said.

Gabrielian reiterated Armenia’s position on terrorism–which is confirmed through Armenia’s accession to different resolutions of UN–conventions.

He also said that Armenia’s position was clearly stated by president Robert Kocharian at the UN General Assembly this September.
