Zavarian Burian Reaffirms Commitment to Armenian Cause

YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Sunday became a historic day for Armenia and Armenia’s throughout the world–especially the residents of Aygehad village in Alaverdi–since the remains of the Armenian revolutionary leader and philosopher Simon Zavarian–one of the founding trinity of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation–were moved from Tbilisi and buried in the Zavarian family plot in the village cemetery.

Zavarian–who passed away in Constantinople (Istanbul) in 1913–was buried in the Khodjivank cemetery in Tiflis (Tbilisi). Per a decision of the ARF Executive Council of Armenia–Zavarian’s remains were transported from Georgia to Armenia–and during a special ceremony were buried at Aygehad.

From early morning hundreds traveled from throughout Armenia and Karabakh to witness this momentous event. From Yerevan–Sunic–Shirak–Tavoush and Aramavir–hundreds came to take part in this burial process. The Armenian hero–who was considered the moral compass of the ARF–had come home to rest.

At 3 p.m. the much-anticipated ceremony began. The burial was officiated by Bishop Sebouh Souldjian–Primate of the Gougarats Diocese. A moving eulogy was said by Armenia’s minister of culture Roland Sharoyan.

Following the burial–108 new members were inducted into the ran’s of the ARF during a special oath ceremony marking the 108th anniversary of the ARF. Officiating the ceremony was ARF Executive Council of Armenia member Hrant Markarian–who told the new members of the important task ahead of them as new ARF members.

The participants and guests converged in the nearby school for a special memorial concert honoring Zavarian. Prior the commencement of the program–ARF Executive Council chairman Vahan Hovanessian addressed the crowd–emphasizing the important role Zavarian played not only in the ARF reality but also in Armenian history in general.

Also speaking at the event were ARF Executive Council members Ardashes Shahbazian and Davit Lokian; ARF fieldworker Edward Hovanessian–Lori governor Henrik Kotchinian and a representative of the ARF Central Committee of Karabakh Artsakh Buniatian.

And–thus–November 15 was eternally embedded as an historic day for the people of Aygehad village and for the entire Armenian people as day of reaffirm its commitment to the national ideals and principles of the Armenian nation.
