College De France Disregards Armenian Community

PARIS (Gamk)–The Paris-based College de France has appointed Gilles Weinstein to lead the newly established Turkish studies chair in that institution of higher learning.

Since 1995–Weinstein has denied the Armenian Genocide through his several publication and an interview he gave to the French-Armenian press.

Historian Claude Mutafyan of Paris University stated that Weinstein deliberately disregards voluminous pieces of evidence which suggest that the Armenian massacres were state-sponsored Genocide–thus becoming an advocate for and an accomplice to Turkey’s denial campaign which has been waged for the past decade in the Western world.

A committee representing all facets of the French-Armenian community had protested the appointment of Weinstein to the college.

In response to the community’s protests–Gilbert Dagronne the director of College de France wrote the committee that the institution would never support an individuals which involves him/herself in international revisionism and denial of history.

However–Dagronne questioned the validity of the committee’s evaluation of Weinstein–calling into question the community’s motivations for the protest.

In an interview with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty on Monday–Dagronne announced Weinstein’s appointment and without elaborating on the basis of the decision–urged all to read his response to the French-Armenian community–which he stressed reflected the official position of the College de France.
