ANC Activist Bill Mesrobian Dies

"The world knows nothing of its greatest men" –Henry Taylor

Last week the Armenian Cause was dealt a blow by the untimely passing one of its most dedicated and active advocates–Bill Mesrobian of Natick–Massachusetts.

Bill’s name may not ring a bell to many since he shunned the spotlight as fervently as he clashed with the Turkish Government and the slick sycophant lobbyists who prowl the halls of Congress–wearing-out their three hundred dollar tasseled loafers in an attempt to put the right "spin" on Genocide.

During the course of my involvement with the ANC I–like many before me and since–have spoken to Bill hundreds of times to discuss Hai Tahd initiatives–especially the status of congressional legislation to commemorate the Armenian Genocide. Even under the most daunting of circumstances–I can honestly say that Bill–who gave new meaning to the term "soft-spoken," never gave me a hint of wavering in his desire and commitment and always proceeded full bore in promoting Hai Tahd–wherever and whenever he could. He was–in a word–a believer.

I can assure you that Bill–despite a lifetime of sweat and toil for the Armenian Cause–never considered himself one of the "bigshots" and–from what I can tell–never had any interest in being labeled as such. Nevertheless–before you can become a good leader you have to have been a great soldier and Bill Mesrobian was–without question–a great soldier.

Sadly for us all–fate was able to complete something that the Turks were never able to do–silence Bill Mesrobian’s stubborn–resolute voice.

The Armenian National Committee of American–Western Region extends its most heartfelt condolences to the Mesrobian family and hopes that they may find some solace in the fact that Bill’s quest for justice serves as an inspiration for us all to do even more in realizing our collective aspirations.
