Ghoukassian Meets US Minsk Group Co Chairman

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic Arkady Ghoukassian–who is currently in Washington–met Monday with Donald Kaiser–the US co-chairman of the Minsk Group of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe.

Ghoukassian and Kaiser discussed the Karabakh conflict peace process and exchanged views on the newly proposed peace plan by the OSCE Minsk Group.

The Karabakh leader also met with representatives of the United States Chamber of Commerce.

The same day the Karabakh delegation was received by chairman of the Senate subcommittee for foreign relations Senator Chuck Hagel. During the meeting–which was also attended by the Armenian Ambassador to the United States Rouben Shugarian–Ghoukassian presented Karabakh’s position on key issues related to the Karabakh conflict resolution process.

The Karabakh delegation also met with the chairman of the Congressional Subcommittee for Foreign Operations–Rep. Sonny Callahan. The sides discussed a wide range of issues related to the conflict resolution and socio-economic development of Karabakh. Callahan expressed support for the continued US humanitarian assistance to Karabakh–noting the importance of maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The same evening the Karabakh delegation met with vice-president on academic issues of the George Washington University Donald Lehmann. After the meeting Ghoukassian addressed the faculty–staff and students of the University and answered their questions regarding Karabakh.
