General Dro’s Remains to be Returned in 2000

Upon discussions between the Republic of Armenia’s Defense Ministry and members of the Kanayan family–the Republic of Armenia and the family have agreed to postpone the Return of the remains of General Drastamat "Dro" Kanayan to his homeland from May–1999 to May–2000.

There were a few reasons for the postponement. The impact of the millennium year would make it a more memorable event. Also the year 2000 marks General Dro’s 100th anniversary of his entering his service to the Armenian people.

General Dro’s entire life was predicated on the philosophy that every Armenian could not have a greater goal but to serve his country and to work to assure this security and preservation of the Armenian nation. The return of his remains in May of 2000 marks General Dro’s belief that the Armenian nation and its people are forever one.
