Turkey Wages Political Cultural War Against Kurds

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian Kurdish community held March 26 a news conference on the occasion of Novruz celebrations in Armenia. To participate in the celebrations Kurdish artists from Europe arrived in Yerevan.

A representative of the Union of Kurds Cherkes Rash said that these arrangemen’s will be simultaneously aimed at supporting the leader of the Kurdish Worker’s Party Abdullah Ocalan. He said that before the trial of Ocalan begins–the Armenian Kurdish community plans to stage demonstrations–rallies and marches.

Rash also condemned NATO airstrikes on Serbia–noting that "the superpowers which kicked up a great row over Kosovo–keep silent when the matter concerns the defense of rights of the 40-million Kurdish people."

The Kurdish artists said that Turkey is waging not only political–but also cultural war against the Kurdish people. He–in particular–mentioned that due to Turkey’s efforts the Kurdish channel in Europe–Med TV–has been shut down for 21 days. Among reasons for which the channel has been shut down were programs on the Armenian genocide broadcast by Med TV.
