CEC Approves Order Concerning Soldiers’ Voting Rights

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)– The Central Electoral Commission held a meeting Tuesday and voted unanimously to include soldiers in voting lists and to allow soldiers to participate in the polls.

Under this new order–commanders of military units draw up lists of soldiers and the members of their families residing in respective territories. Soldiers who do not reside in the territories of military units–are included in the voters’ lists in accordance with the general practice. The voters’ lists are to be put up in the military units at least 15 days before the poll. At least five days before the poll–the commanders of military units must present the voters’ lists to the leaders of the relevant communities. Community leaders must hand the lists over to the chairpersons of the relevant electoral commissions. Only the members of electoral commissions and proxies to candidates for parliament can peruse the lists of soldiers.

It was suggested at the meeting that two months after the poll–lists should be filed along with other documen’s concerning the elections.
