Changing of the Guard At Glendale City Council

GLENDALE–During a special session of the Glendale City Council Monday night–Mayor Eileen Givens and 16-year City Councilman Larry Zarian stepped down–taking with them a combined 24-year experience from the City Council.

The newly-elected City Council members Gus Gomez and Rafi Manoukian took their oath of office–during the special meeting and witnessed by a packed Council chamber.

In his remarks–Manoukian thanked the voters–who weathered the Election Day rain storms and made their choice.

After thanking his wife Dzovig–his family–campaign staff and volunteers–Manoukian reiterated his pledge of serving all of Glendale and working to build bridges between the various segmen’s of the city.

In his remarks–Gomez also thanked his wife and campaign manager Gelynda and pledged to work with all segmen’s of the city.

Both City Council members especially thanked the Armenian National Committee Glendale chapter for its support.

Following the oath ceremony–the City Council–by a vote of 4-0 elected Ginger Bremberg to serve as the Mayor of Glendale for 1999-2000. Gomez abstained.
