Russian Arms in Armenia Meet CFE Treaty Standards

YEREVAN (Itar-Tass)–An international inspection team under the leadership of a Turkish commander Saturday concluded an inspection of arms and military hardware of Armenian and Russian military units deployed in Gumri.

The group’s leader Colonel Yavuz Akguen of Turkey told reporters that the weapons of the units were found to meet the Conventional Forces in Europe–or CFE–treaty.

The inspecting delegation included military experts of Belgium – Britain and Turkey.

Such inspections under the CFE treaty help instill trust between the signatory states–Akguen said.

He thanked the Armenian and Russian sides who he said facilitated the successful trip of the inspection group to Armenia.
