BAKU (Turan)–"We have established that there are nine Azeri prisoners of war in Yerevan and five in Stepanakert. Two Armenian prisoners of war are held in Baku," a member of the German Heinrich Boell human rights foundation–Svetlana Gannushkina–told a press conference in Baku.
She said that prisoners of war in Baku and Yerevan were held under " normal" conditions. The conditions under which prisoners of war were held in Karabakh have improved–Gannushkina believes.
She said that there are no civilian prisoners on Armenian and Azeri territory. Reports about prisoners of war being held in a number of prisons in Armenia and Azerbaijan have not been confirmed during visits to the two countries. Two other foundation members–Bernhard Klazen and Paata Zakarishvili took part in the press conference. They have been engaged in tracing prisoners of war and missing persons since 1995. They come to the region to conduct searches twice a year.
