Energy Agency Implemen’s Power Plant Personnel Training

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The International Atomic Energy Agency is implementing two programs in Armenia which are aimed at raising the skills and capabilities of the Armenian Nuclear Power Plant personnel–chief of the department of technical information and foreign relations of the State Atomic Inspection Vladimir Kurginian said. Both programs are meant for two years. Total funding makes up about $300,000. The first program is aimed at upgrading and strengthening the skills and capabilities of human resources through scientific visits and training in technical know-how related to peaceful use of atomic energy.

The objective of the second program is to improve the operational safety and reliability of the Armenian NPP through development of programs of training operational and maintenance staff and through transfer of international practice in training methodology. According to IAEA–the competent operational and maintenance personnel will promote enhancement of ANPP’s safety and reliability. The initial focus of the systematic approach to training has been on the positions of control room reactor operator–control room turbine operator and radiation protection technician. The program also provides for IAEA’s assistance in establishing a training center at ANPP–consultations–and delivery of equipment.
