CIS State Defense Ministries Meet

MOSCOW (Itar-Tass)–The headquarters for military cooperation between CIS member states said that radar’s that pick up targets in the air–water and land will be improved.

Representatives of the defense ministries of Armenia–Belarus–Kazakhstan–Kyrgyzstan–Russia–Tajikistan–Ukraine and Uzbekistan were present at a meting discussing this issue in Russia.

The three-day international conference–which ended on the evening of July 29–discussed the operational use and deployment of recognition systems. Participants also exchanged experience of target recognition in the states signatory to the June 26 1992 agreement "On ensuring the radar identification of targets in the air–on water and on land."

For two days members of the general staffs of the armed forces of the member states have been working with units in Russia to improve their skills in the use of special equipment and control systems. The experience gained will be made use of during the forthcoming large-scale Combat Commonwealth-99 exercises due to be held in August this year.
