Members of Congress Meet With Demirchian

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Karen Demirchian met with a delegation from the US House of Representatives–headed by Congressman Frank Palone–on Monday. Both sides saw that Armenia has great potential for further development. Armenia is on the right track–according to the congressmen.

The delegation stressed the importance of the Parliament’s adopting reform-promoting laws and expressed willingness to support the democratic changes in Armenia. Palone pointed out that the US gave a high appraisal to the parliamentary elections in Armenia and has great hopes for the current Parliament.

The delegation visited Karabakh yesterday and met with President Arkady Ghougassian. The sides discussed the current situation of the Karabakh settlement. President Ghougassian told the delegation that he was pleased at the last settlement the UN Minsk Group had offered. The delegation announced that they will also visit Azerbaijan next week. During their meetings with Azerbaijani President Haydar Aliev they will discuss of a method in which a peaceful solution will be reached.
