Joint Russian Armenian Air Show Held

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–An air-show dedicated to Russian Aviation Day was held at the Erebuni Airport late last week.

Participating in the show were the pilots of the 426th Russian Air Force division stationed in Armenia–as well as members of the Armenian air division. The public witnessed flights of the SU-25 and MIG-29 warplanes which conducted maneuvers over Yerevan.

Present at the gathering were Armenian Minister of Defense Vagharshak Harutiunian–the commanders of the Russian military base in Armenia–representatives of the Aviation Department–and the ministry of defense as well as Russian diplomats.

Commander of Russia’s Air Force 426th division–Colonel Alexander Berzan–Chief of the Aviation Department of the Armenian Defense Ministry–Kajik Mnatsakanian and Mayor of Yerevan Albert Bazeyan welcomed the pilots and wished them success in carrying out their duties. The air show also included parachuters–demonstration of model aircraft construction and a concert.

"We feel at home in Armenia. The Armenian people’s attitude toward us is excellent," Mayor Konstantin Kardash of the 426th aviation group told Noyan Tapan.

As for the current level of cooperation between the Russian and Armenian pilots–Mayor Kardash said that despite numerous unsettled issues–active cooperation is being established–He expressed optimism that the cooperation will be strengthened.
