Karabakh to Mark 10th Anniversary of Spiritual Rebirth

STEPANAKERT (Noyan Tapan)–The Artsakh Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church will mark the 10th anniversary of its spiritual rebirth next month.

In 1930 the historical Artsakh Diocese was forced to stop its activities. There hadn’t been a single operating church in Artsakh until October 1–1989. It was only with the beginning of the national-liberation struggle that the spiritual rebirth of the Artsakh Diocese became possible. A liturgy offered at St. John the Baptist Cathedral in Gandzasar–Karabakh’s historical spiritual center–marked the beginning of the spiritual revival of Artsakh.

The anniversary celebrations are scheduled for September 26 to coincide with St. Varag Khach Festivals. The three day celebration will include the sanctification of renovated churches–pilgrimages to sacred locations–a theological conference–theater performances on religious plots as well as concerts of sacred music.

The celebrations will begin with a divine liturgy to be served at the Gandzasar Cloister.
