Ukrainian Embassy Celebrates Independence Day

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Ukrainian Embassy in Armenia hosted a reception Tuesday on the occasion of Ukraine’s national festival–the 8th anniversary of independence.

Ukrainian Ambassador to Armenia Alexander Bozhko noted in his welcoming speech that Ukraine opted for independence as a result of a national referendum with 90 percent of the population supporting it. Ukraine is a democratic state with fully preserved territorial integrity–which is one of the major achievemen’s of the country.

Bozhko highly assessed his country’s cooperation with Armenia–stating that the centuries-old friendship between the two nations obliges greater responsibility.

"Both countries have a huge potential in various spheres–including politics–culture–trade," said Bozhko. "The development of these relations meets the interests of our peoples–to have a thriving and well developed Armenia and nonetheless prosperous and advanced Ukraine."

In conclusion Bozhko proposed a toast for "this sacred goal to be achieved as soon as possible."

Attending the reception party were government officials–members of parliament–diplomats accredited to Armenia–leaders of political parties–representatives of cultural and financial circles as well as representatives of public organizations and the media.
