Oskanian Meets Chinese Prime Minister

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vardan Oskanian met with China’s Prime Minister Zhu Zhunzi in Beijing on August 26 to discuss issues of bilateral cooperation and to give a political assessment to these issues. Also discussed were issues of economic cooperation. The sides referred to the need for joint implementation of devised projects.

The Foreign Ministry said the visit is proceeding with a great success and tangible results.

On August 27–the delegation will head for Shanghai where meetings with the city’s mayor and influential businessmen are planned.

Oskanian held a meeting August 24 with the member of the Standing Committee–the Assembly of People’s Representatives of China–Chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee Dzeng Jianui.

Making a positive assessment of the bilateral relations–the sides regarded as unsatisfactory the current level of economic cooperation. The importance of taking concrete steps in this direction was pointed out. Dzeng Jianui thanked the Armenian foreign minister for Armenia’s position on Taiwan and Tibet at the international organizations and pointed out the importance of the matter to China. Minister Oskanian presented the process of the Karabakh settlement.

The sides discussed the issues of interparliamentary cooperation–including the formation of the Armenia-China interparliamentary friendship group.

On August 25–the Armenian foreign minister held a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Tan Dzasuan. The two discussed a wide range of issues of mutual interest–laying special emphasis on the development of the bilateral economic cooperation.

The sides made assessmen’s of the current processes in the Transcaucasus and Central Asia and exchanged information on the settlement of the Karabakh and Taiwan problems.
