FAVL Presents Data On POWs in Armenia And Azerbaijan

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Executive Director of the Fund Against Violations of Law Larisa Alaverdian reported that seven Azeri POWs are currently kept in Armenia and five in Nagorno Karabakh–in contrast to allegations of Azeri sources that 15 Azeri POWs are kept in Armenian territory.

Commenting on the statement of the Azeri side that there are no Armenian POWs in Azerbaijan–Alaverdian said that there are actually no POWs who are visited by the representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross in that country–but it does not mean that there are no Armenian POWs in Azerbaijan.

In particular–Alaverdian reported that Azeri authorities did not allow either the ICRC representatives or the members of the Russia-Georgia-Germany peace-making group to visit the Azeri Shubani region to verify the information provided to them. According to sources–16-18 Armenian POWs are kept in Shubani region in Azerbaijan.
