Chinese Photo Exhibition Opens in Yerevan

YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A photo exhibition dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Chinese People’s Republic opened at the Ministry of Culture–Youth Affairs and Sports on September 27. The photos on display depict the history of the Chinese people over the past 100 years–the declaration of independence–achievemen’s on the world political arena–and cultural and sports achievemen’s.

At the exhibition opening ceremony Chinese Ambassador Zhu Zhaoshun said that the Chinese Embassy tried to call the attention of the visitors to the modern history of the Chinese people–laying special emphasis on the cultural revolution of 1966-1976 and subsequent years. "Despite its name–the ‘cultural revolution’ era was characterized by great losses and downfalls," the ambassador said. The era following 1978 was the opposite to this phenomenon. It was characterized by annual economic growth by 9.8 percent–a 5.5-fold increase in industrial capacities within 20 years–the formation of a powerful army–and a higher educational and social level of the population.
