UN Flag At Half Staff to Honor Slain Officials

UNITED NATIONS (AP)–The United Nations flag flew at half-staff outside UN headquarters Monday in memory of Armenian Prime Minister Vazgen Sargsyan who was killed in an attack on parliament last week.

Secretary-General Kofi Annan went to Armenia’s UN Mission Monday morning to sign a book of condolences on Sargsyan’s tragic death–said UN spokesman Fred Eckhard.

The prime minister and seven other Armenian officials and lawmakers were killed when gunmen opened fire in the parliament chamber.

Five men have been charged with first degree murder–terrorism and weakening state power in connection with the attack.
